A range of activities for all ages

Young people

Our community includes many young people and we attach great importance to developing their Jewish identity and knowledge.

The Menorah Minis meet on the first Sunday morning of each month during term-time, providing a good opportunity for parents of toddlers to get together and compare notes.

Cheder is held every Sunday in term time between 10.15 am and 12.30 pm.

  • There are 8 classes with a total of 80 children attending from age 5/6 to 13 years.
  • We have experienced teachers and the syllabus covers both Jewish Studies and Hebrew, and there are also special events throughout the year for all festivals.
  • Cheder is an excellent way to learn, have fun, and meet new friends.
  • Once the children have graduated from cheder classes, they are encouraged to return to assist the other children with their Hebrew learning and ultimately to become teaching assistants, helping with the entire spectrum of Jewish learning.
  • As children approach 13 they prepare for Bar/Batmitzvah. They are supported by a professional team and the Rabbi. We find this approach immensely rewarding for both pupil and teacher. We have prepared a list of resources to help prepare for Bar/Batmitzvah.

There are youth activities, which generally take place on a Sunday, with a whole host of things to do and take part in.

Adults

The synagogue runs many interesting and diverse activities for adults. They include:

  • Adult education and learning courses
  • Book club
  • Care group
  • Choir
  • Flora Menorah
  • Fund-raising and social events
  • Third Age Group
  • Menorah Walkers

Coffee and refreshments are available on Sunday mornings when there are activities in progress. There is an enriching choir with a professional musical director, a fully stocked library and Judaica shop.

The Care Group meets monthly to offer practical help to those members in need.

Each year we raise large amounts of money for charity through fundraising events and the High Holy Day Appeal.

Shofar, the Menorah community magazine, is published ten times per year and contains details of all the Synagogue's events and activities.
